Why is my QR code unscannable?
Last updated: Jun 12, 2026
When a QR code refuses to scan, the cause is almost always one of these:
- Low contrast — the code color is too close to the background color. A dark code on a light background scans best.
- Too small for the scan distance — a code on a poster across the room needs to be much larger than one on a business card.
- Missing quiet zone — the empty margin around the code has been cropped or covered. Leave clear space on all four sides.
- Logo covering too much — a large center logo can hide more of the pattern than scanners can compensate for. Try a smaller logo.
- The code is paused — a paused or disabled dynamic code in your dashboard will not resolve. Check its status and resume it.
- Low-resolution export — a small or heavily compressed image turns blurry in print.
For print, download your code as a PNG at a generous size or as an SVG (which scales to any size without quality loss), and always test the printed code with a couple of different phones before producing the full run.
